Marijuana in Ohio

Effective September 8, 2016, Ohio House Bill 523 legalized medical marijuana in Ohio. The Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program will allow people with certain medical conditions, upon the recommendation of an Ohio-licensed physician certified by the State Medical Board, to purchase and use medical marijuana. Local governments may adopt anti-medical marijuana zoning ordinances.

In addition, though plant material (flower) is available for purchase, the law prohibits the use of medical marijuana by smoking or combustion, but does allow vaporization/vaping.

Personal cultivation of marijuana is prohibited.

Minors

Medical Marijuana is available to minors. However, a certified physician may recommend treatment with medical marijuana only after obtaining the consent of a parent or another person responsible for providing consent to treatment.
