Medical marijuana was legalized in Maine in 1999, and dispensaries were approved in 2009. Patients were able to access marijuana from dispensaries in 2011. in the November 2016 election, residents voted to legalize recreational marijuana, but a regulatory structure for commercial sales has not yet been established.
